Street Moments

Welcome to the blog of an anonymous street photographer.

This is where I will display photos of moments captured in the streets across the world.

If you find my blog interesting, please follow it. I follow back 99% of people, if only to avoid missing any potential inspiration.

Q
I have been studying black and & white photography at college as a module. And find how different you can look at the world around me! We use Iford's 400 film and I have been using a Canon AT-1 camera which I love. Do you still use black and white film??? Or would rather use your DSLR???

Black and white is beautiful. I used a DSLR often and it has allowed me to create images that may be difficult otherwise. But the truth of the matter is that film is organic and wholistic to me. It physically captures light in a different way and always will. My haven’t shot ilford, but Tri-X with my 1958 Yashica TLR may be my favorite thing ever.

Q
Why the black and white?
A

I feel like black and white allows you to focus on the images in front of you - there’s no distraction of color.  For me, what’s important is the person in my photographs.  I’m interested by them.  Streets are very black and white to me and that’s how I visualize them in my head.

Q
I find your photos fascinating. What camera are you using? I'd like to do what you do but I find it difficult to be "discreet" -- fearing that I'm invading their privacy.
A

I use a Nikon D7000, a Yashica-mat LM and an X100.  I absolutely understand your views and being a considerate person, I personally had the same opinion to start with, however, one of the biggest things I’ve realized is that people enjoy being photographed.  If you are terrified they will think it’s because you’re hiding something.  If you can cheerfully go up to someone and take their photo, look them in the eye afterward and smile - they have nothing to be scared of.  That’s always been my approach.  If you don’t hide your activities, they won’t hide theirs from you. That’s when the magic happens.

Q
What got you started?
A

I honestly had a simple desire to capture the best and worst moments in people who I’ve found fascinating my whole life.  There is so much happening around us on a daily basis, and we don’t look at it.  We don’t observe others because it almost seems like your average joe is afraid to interact with a stranger.  I was terrified of people, so I decided to dive head first into it and street photography allowed me to conquer my fear.  Then I began to love people.  That’s what got me started.

Thank you!

I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their immense support these past couple weeks.  When I started doing this, I had no idea how people would respond.  I’ll be traveling to some new places these next couple weeks and promise to put up more photos soon.

Catch ya on the flipside,

Street Moments

This man was back and forth on the streets all day.  At first I thought his scooter was fascinating, but then I saw his tattoo of Jesus Christ later in the day.
I think that it’s quite a sentiment to our civilization that people are free to believe in something so much that they will tattoo it upon themselves.  It’s quite beautiful to me, regardless of my own personal beliefs.

I wanted to get a better shot of this man geting onto his bike, and I had thought that the photo was lost until I saw the pictures later.  I didn’t realize the flare was in this photo. Being that we were in the shade, I have no idea how it could have occurred.  But I’m okay with a happy accident.

These two were enjoying their ice creams thoroughly.  I would think it odd if someone were snapping photos of me outside the store, but then they probably thought I was just taking photos of the store’s window advertisements. They seemed to thoroughly enjoy their ice creams.

This man was rather grumpy, but I felt no anger toward him for it.  I would be quite grumpy as well.  He could only take small steps of maybe 2-3 inches because of the pain he was in.  I cannot imagine living through an entire day with my body fighting every step. I admired his courage.
